Are you happy with your body?
Do you think that you could loose a couple pounds?
The thing is, to love our body in general, is such a difficult and controversial subject to talk about. If you have a certain opinion, and share it on social medias, it’s almost certain you are going to be met with a hurricane of criticism. I’m not here to say what body type is better. What I am here to say its that, Everyone is beautiful.
One thing that is certain, “body bashing” of random people on social medias, of our friends and families, and mostly of our own bodies, has got to stop. Why people feel the need to bash other people, instead of encouraging and helping our fellow human beings, still really baffles me. Big, small, square, rectangle, round, beanstalk, pear, coconut, pineapple, lime, piña colada … who really cares what our bodies look like, as long as they are healthy.
The numbers on our scales and our BMI’s ( body mass index ) are also not the best ways to gage if our bodies are in good shape. Nowhere in the BMI calculations, weight divided by height squared, does it make the different between fat and muscle. The number you see when you step on the scale, doesn’t take that fact into consideration either. As you know, muscle weighs more than fat. You can have lighter people that are healthy and some that aren’t, people that are heavier that are healthy and others that aren’t. What really ends up weighing us down, are unhealthy life habits.
Growing up, I was raised by a mother who taught me that the most important thing is what your body can achieve, and not what it looks like. So, I count myself really lucky to have never had many body issues, other than my chronic illnesses. It was drilled into me at a young age, that it is much more important to be able to kick butt at sport, or to climb that mountain, than to look skinny. Growing older, it would break my heart, to see my mum, the same person who taught me to love my body no matter what, to be ashamed of her own. This beautiful human being, that could probably kick any guys butt in any sport and is more flexible than me, would be ashamed to show her tummy because of the excess skin. That skin, by the way, is due to two c-section births.
Our bodies are powerful beyond measure. We tend to forget how strong we really are, and what our bodies can achieve. Think overcoming illnesses and colds, reaching goals like climbing a mountain, becoming more flexible, rehabilitation after an accident, childbirth … I could go on forever. We recognize the concept that we aren’t perfect. But still we hate on our bodies like we aren’t in charge of ourselves. Somedays you will want to binge watch a show on Netflix, other days you might want to run a marathon, and that’s totally okay.
You do not have to be a super star athlete, I know that mindset is not for everyone. Just find an activity that get you moving and that is fun at the same time! I guarantee you, that once you see what your amazing body can achieve, you will have no choice but to fall in love with it.
Glow cleanse is home made right here in Montreal. It consists of 6 yummy smoothies to take during the corse of the day. Compared to a juice cleanse, you get a lot more proteins a fibbers when you do a smoothie one. You can choose to either do a 1 or 3 day cleanse. I adopted to do a one day cleanse since it was my first time doing any type of cleanse!
I decided to do it right now as a type of "spring cleaning" for my body after a long and cold winter. It was also a type of reset button to push before I had to dive head first into my university final exams. You should choose to do a cleanse when you can have a day or two to really relax and take care of yourself. Going to the spa, getting a massage, doing some relaxing yoga … You're releasing all the toxins from your body!
Be aware a smoothie cleanse is not for everyone! If you are expecting to be a mother or under 18 you are not illegible to participate. Also if you have a illness , taking any medication or diabetic you have to have the okay from your doctor to do the cure.
The first smoothie is the Elixir Opaline. A mix of cashew milk, spinach, avocado and chlorella. I started my day off with a cup of hot water & lemon juice like I do every morning. While reading my book, the psychology of yoga by Georg Feuerstein, I drank the yummy smoothie. I'm not a big breakfast eater so I had no hunger cravings all morning.
On my way to yoga at lunch time, I drank the second smoothie in the cleanse. The Gold Dose, made of; water, mango, orange, tangerines, chia seeds, lemon juice, aloe vera, turmeric and baobab. It has a got a nice a refreshing taste to perk you up before the afternoon. I still had no hunger cravings and felt amazing during yoga.
The third smoothie you get to have early afternoon is the Jade Cure. It's the classic green smoothie made of water, pineapple, mangos, kale, lime juice, match, spirulina and moringa. I went to the book store to read books about my up coming trip to Europe. At the time I started to have some headaches but drinking a couple cups of herbal tea and they started to subside. The trick to doing a cleanse is to drink enough fluids to wash out all the toxins in your body.
The yummiest smoothie of the cure is definitely in my opinion the Cocoa Concoction, but maybe it's just because I am a choco-holic! Before drinking this smoothie, I started to have a little big a hunger cravings but drinking this up made it all go away. It's made of water, banana, berries, dates, cocoa, chia seeds, vanilla, coconut oil, macca and chilli. I drank it right up while I was doing statistic homework.
The second to last smoothie of the day is the Orange Potion. It's a consistent and filling smoothie made of water, mango, orange, carrot juice, pumpkin, ginger juice, lime juice and reishi mushrooms. Still at 6pm, I had no hunger cravings or dip in my energy. I was able to concentrate on my class without any distractions.
The final smoothie of the day is a relaxing blend of Masala Chai tea, banana, figs, chia seeds and hemp seeds. After taking a nice hot bath, I winded down to drink the Dream Infusion while writing down my thoughts of my day feeling nice and rested with lots of energy. I have a chronic condition called Irritable Bowl Syndrome and doing this cleanse really have a nice break to my digestive system. You can buy their cures and teas at http://www.glowcleanse.com … Now I am ready for a good nights sleep!
We named our studio " Sacred Space " for a specific reason. We are offering a space of relaxation to the community, a space where people can come and ground themselves to their roots and connect with their min, body and soul. Although ours is offered to everyone who wants to come and take a class, you can make your own sacred space in your home where you can do yoga, meditate or create. Here are some simple tips into making a space for yourself.
We tend to get caught up in everyday stresses quite easily. When we don't get the job we really wanted, we might tend to be depressed about it and loose motivation. When our significant other breaks up with us, we will wallow in our self pity for how ever long it takes us to get over them. Sometimes all these little dramas accumulate and then we loose sight of what really mattered in the first place. That black little cloud will follow you around everywhere and you will be under the impression that it will be there forever.
Shake yourself out of that funk. You are allowed to mourn whatever lose or failure for however long you need to. At a certain point, you are going to have to realize that not everything is eternally bad. Every time something bad happens, it won't last forever. You heal after you are hurt. The sun rises after every nightfall. Nothing lasts forever. Not the good or the bad.
Breath and be thankful every morning for the opportunities presented in front of you. Be thankful for the air that fills your lungs. Find something to be thankful of everyday.
Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you

Remember in those physical education where the teacher made you do challenges? Like the beep test etc … Unless you were the super competitive type, you probably did not enjoy theses classes. Recently I found this video on youtube of the Bring Sally Up challenge, not remembering this specific fitness challenge from high school I thought I would give it a try. Oh man, let me tell you, it's pretty tough! You can do it in squats or push-ups. For the past week I have been trying to do it a couple times a day. It's fun, simple and you need absolutely no equipment ! How far can you get ?
Naturopathic médecine relies for its healing knowledge on the vast repository of wisdom innate in the Earth. When you begin working with Naturopathic medicine, you will be using the oldest, most clinically researched medicine available - natural therapeutics that have been applied effectively for tens of thousand of years - combined with the best of contemporary research and technology.
Naturopathic médecine is a system of classical medicine defined by its philosophy. The term classical more fully captures the essence of naturopathic medicine than do the terms alternate or complementary. The roots of naturopathic medicine reach back to classical times, when physicians studied the processes of health of well as the processes of disease. Those roots extend even deeper into the soil of time, to an era when humans understood the healing power in their own bodies, as well as in the plants and elements that surround them. The innate healing power, or natural intelligence, directs the body to regenerate and rebalance.
Many techniques or healing modalities fit under the naturopathic medicine umbrella. The philosophy of naturopathic medicine proved the link that unifies this group of diverse practices. A core aspect of this philosophy, is that the treatment must be individualized to meet the need of a particular patient. Naturopathic medicine treats diseases by treating people. Ten people with similar flu-like symptoms may walk into a naturopathic office, and walk out with ten different treatment plans, each tailored to meet a particular set of needs.
The diversity in treatment methods makes naturopathic medicine difficult for some people to understand. Legislative bodies understand other healing modalities - acupuncture for example - more readily becomes the method of healing is more or less consistent from patient to patient. Acupuncturists use needles. Chiropractic physicians administer force or non force methods of adjustment. Medicinal doctors prescribe pharmaceutical drugs and surgery. A naturopathic physician however has a vast array of potential treatments to choose from.
Naturopathic medicine relies on the body's innate strength.
Hello my name is Hope Pokocky and I am passionate about life! I love working out and finding different ways to give back to the wonderful body we were given for this journey on earth! Writing is my way of sharing this with you, hence the creation of www.Hopetoit.wordpress.com
Today I wanted to talk to you about the importance of allowing your mind, body and spirit to connect throughout your fitness journey! Happy reading :)
The best kind of exercise is the one that goes deeper than skin deep. Any type of exercise that you do will most definitely change your physical body but it is what happens underneath the skin that is so miraculous. Many benefits occur within your body and mind as a result of working out. Best of all, physical activity has a beautiful way of bringing your spirit, mind and body altogether as one.
If you let it, exercising will enhance not only your physical appearance but your mind and soul as well. It is a beautiful thing how taking care of yourself through exercise and nutrition can make your whole body vibrate with positive, healthy energy.
Now you may ask how one can be filled with such energy. I have only one tip for you. Remove all judgment from this journey. It is easy to get influenced to start working out in order to have a banging summer body but this should only be a positive side effect. Once you begin this journey of fitness for whatever reason it may be, you must allow yourself to connect with each aspect of your being on a deeper level.
Once you have removed all judgment, you are on the right path. You will now be able to reap all the benefits working out has to offer. See, by loving yourself enough to put in the hard work to keep your body in shape, your mind and spirit will also become healthier. As long as you are giving back to your body it will give back to you in ways you may have not imagined.
The best ways to be able to create a link between your body, mind and spirit is through exercise that nurtures these things. Yoga, pilates and exercise that revolve around these concepts will allow you to create that deeper connection within. An intense workout at the gym can connect your mind and body but your spirit or inner body is may be forgotten. It is important to perform exercise that will not only make your stronger but will allow you to focus on every aspect of you.
Any type of exercise you choose to tie these three aspects together will work as long as you are focusing on this. I believe yoga and pilates are two types of exercises that really favor this as they flow in a way that allow you to be present and nurture yourself. Your body is your vehicle on this earth while also being the home of your mind and spirit. By keeping your body healthy and fit your are creating a positive, beautiful place for your thoughts, personality, energy, essence, consciousness and so on.
When you are working out, focus on the energy you feel throughout your body. Be aware of what is happening as you are working out. Feel the rush of energy that it is creating. Your feet firmly planted on the ground or your core stabilizing your entire body. Be the exercise you are doing. Feel the power emanating from all your muscles. Every part of you is vibrating and pushing themselves further than they could before. Let your mind and spirit do this as well. Let your inner energy spread out of your body and shine bright.
When you allow this connection to be made between these three aspects within you, the beauty will be constant. You will feel your smile become bigger, your skin glowing, your energy vibrating on a positive frequency. Exercise is not just about having a nice backside or the perfect “V” abs. Exercise is much more than that and when you allow it to affect every aspect of your being you will understand the beauty of giving back to yourself through physical activity.
This easy breakfast recipe is so easy and so delicious! Tried it this morning and I am love it. All you need is avocados and eggs!
1 - Preheat your oven to 425F
2 - Cut the avocados in half and take out the pits. Scoop out about one tablespoon of the half of avocados so you have enough space to pour the egg.
3 - Crack the eggs and pour them into the hole of the Avocado.
4 - bake for 15-20 minutes
Growing up, my Mother always taught me the value of loving yourself. Training in two different competitive sports from a young age, I was always more focused on what my body could accomplish rather than what it looked liked.
Only up until recently though, I was convinced that my body was out to ruin my life.
At seven years old, I was diagnosed with a rare type of malformation in my left knee resulting in chronic pain and a knee three times the usual size. It was inoperable and my dream of becoming a professional athlete got a big red X put across it. My body was always breaking down leaving me angry and bitter. I couldn't even participate in physical education classes in school and that made me feel even more different and isolated.
Why was I having such a hard time healing? When there are people way worse off than me that are accomplishing amazing things in this world. I blamed myself for being a burden, convincing myself that it was all in my mind. So I would pretend that I wasn't hurt, pushing myself harder than anyone but that would only make me hit a large number of imaginary brick walls, leaving me not able to move for a couple days. After 13 years of enduring theses patterns, after seeing specialists, acupuncturist, spiritual healers, physiotherapists and being told that they had no clue how to help me, I was exhausted.
What was my body trying to tell me?
I knew my limits but I chose not to listen to them. Our bodies don't try to betray us. They have needs that we either are not in tune enough with or that we chose flat out to ignore. So sometimes they have to scream loudly for us to listen to them. Obviously most illnesses are not a result of a lack of awareness. Sometimes pain and sickness appear for no reason on our path and it is no ones fault. Whatever the cause though, we can always choose our attitude towards what faces us.
Don't focus on what your body can achieve, rather focus on what it can accomplish.
We all tend to fall into our egos trap sometimes. Pushing ourselves to appear less weak and then getting frustrated and angry at our body. Which in turn brings on a avalanche of "poor me's". Self pity is the most un-fun feeling to feel. In doesn't make you feel better like you think it might, it fact it will make you feel even worse than before.
You've got to give yourself a break. Seriously. Our bodies thrive on love and will only perish with hate. So focus on what keeps you grounded and inspires you.
Most of the time I treat my body like a temple, but when I feel like crap sometimes it turns into a garbage disposable. Eating junk food to try and comfort ourselves always backfire. We have to choose food that will help put energy into healing rather than draining it.
Being sick sucks, there's no way around that. But looking to others and comparing, will turn you into a jealous grouch. Go out and make yourself feel good. Happiness can come in simple pleasures. Being in nature, meditating, drinking your favourite type of tea. Whatever makes you happy. When we love our body and accept it the way it is, only then can we start to heal.
